"Amos, 52, is running for political office because of his dissatisfaction with politicians. "I've become aware of much corruption involving our two countries," he said. "The only way to fix corruption is in the political forum."
"What he's fighting for is the discussion of issues – tainted blood, the exploitation of the Maritimes' gas and oil reserves and NAFTA, to name a few.
"The political issues in the Maritimes involve the three Fs – fishing, farming and forestry, but they forget foreign issues," he said. "I'm death on NAFTA, the back room deals and free trade. I say chuck it (NAFTA) out the window

Craig O'Donnell
Where to start? Well David, since the last go-around leading up to an election on the issue of shale gas, dire predictions were made by the CCNB of NB, which you were heading, and they contributed greatly in a PR blitz condemning the practice of fracking. Meanwhile in both BC (with an NDP-Greens coalition government, both saying their avid defenders of the environment) and Alberta (ditto for the NDP government there) fracking has continued unabated. It has also continued unabated in most natural gas/oil areas of the US and worldwide. So why have we had no stories of a major catastrophe taking place in that time?
And now Mr. Austin seems to think that his elected MLA's voice carries more weight than municipalities, their councils, and rural councils. Here I thought the PANB was all about letting these areas decide for themselves?

Before you even think about fracking you spend years in the exploration phase doing seismic. Corridor spent 20 years and over a half billion dollars to get to where they are and they took no shortcuts. SWN Canada who came to explore under a deal with Shawn Graham's liberals were given a sweetheart deal with low royalties . The exploration they did was the easy stuff by using existing roads and trails and geochemistry sampling. The next phase in a search requires allot of people and money when you go from a 2D search to a 3D search.
Personally I think Corridor is only interested in their own little niche in the Sussex area and no other company has a desire to come here based on protests and fear mongering. We will continue to import Saudi Oil and natural gas will begin to flow north from the US on our Northeast pipeline.

How much will the province get in royalty payments? I've no objection to selling the asset if the price is right.
Will the companies involve post surety bonds from reputable outfits to hold NB taxpayers harmless if/when things go sideways and a major environmental expenditure is require? If not, are only the taxpayers in the jurisdictions that voted for it on the hook, or do those in jurisdictions that had no say in the decision have to pony up?
Politicians wedded themselves to this resource extraction proposal back when the price was $5 per GJ or more. It might have made some sense then, but at low prices it is too risky.

Make sure when you talk about popcorn in French you say maïs soufflé. If you say popcorn when talking with your buddies, you are using an anglicisme, thereby losing your culture and devaluing your language, which in turn will eventually lead to a uni-lingual New Brunswick (which is apparently not something you are willing to tolerate unless it is French). Ditto for hot dogs, "all dressed", steak, and don't even think of asking for "de la laitue" on your burgers; make sure you ask for "de la salade". Don't go looking for the English words in the French dictionary now; you'll find them and be completely disillusioned. In fact, you should probably give up the English language altogether. Please only post in French from now on. Thanks. Or should I say "merci bien mon ami".

@Marc Martin, he thinks he knows what an "anglicisme" is. But he doesn't. And "laitue" is the correct translation for "lettuce" and the translation for "salad" is "salade". And the words hail from the Fench as a lot of other English words.

All the fury and hot air coming out, it still comes down to one basic fact: if the price on natural gas doesn't make it profitable for a company to come, it stays where it is. Until that point is reached, I don't want to hear "economic benefits", "destruction of wells in the entire province", "our land" and so on...
Evan Day
@Bob Smith Corridor was already here working - including fracking. They've already said they'll resume work if the moratorium is lifted.
Bob Smith
@Evan Day I'm not talking past work. Right now, price on natural gas is near an all time low. To say they're coming back when the moratorium lifts regardless of price is incorrect. It still has to make sense, money wise..

Peter Prosser has hit the nail on the head. Think about it....the government ( ahhh....eerrr that would be US NEW BRUNSWICKERS/CANADIANS... could build a HUGE natural gas fired power plant, sell us New Brunswickers electricity at at least half of what we pay now, and export the remaining ( 99.999%) for a huge profit into government coffers! We could get rid of our provincial debt, hire more doctors, nurses, teachers, police, fire, paramedics, etc. And live happily ever after...like Norway, ....or, we could allow BIG OIL, foreign or domestic, to come here, drill for the gas, take it all away south via pipeline ( as in Sable Island Gas) and just hope this years royalty check of a few hundred thousand will be bigger next year. ...and I don't want to hear replies that " they create employement here" as an excuse for giving away our wealth. Those same folks will be " employed" anyway ....if WE choose to keep our natural gas revenue here in our government bank accounts.
David Amos
@daryl doucette We can buy all the natural gas we want cheap anyway. There is no need to frack for it. Why did Irving and Repsol build the LNG operation in Saint John and Emera a pipeline and then nothing happened?
PANB leader calls for House vote if Tories want to frack outside Sussex
The PCs hope to lift moratorium in Sussex area before the end of the year
People's Alliance Leader Kris Austin says the new Higgs government will be making "a wrong move" if it allows shale gas development outside the Sussex area without a vote in the legislature.
Austin said he and his two fellow Alliance MLAs will want a say on any lifting of a province-wide moratorium in areas they represent.
While the party has promised to support the new Progressive Conservative minority government in confidence votes for 18 months, Austin said he'd allow his members a free vote on fracking in their ridings.
"If it affects our riding, and where we are elected, we certainly want a say in that. I'll just leave it at that," Austin said. "Our caucus wants a say in what happens in our ridings."
The PCs hope to lift the moratorium in the Sussex area before the end of the year and, eventually, in other areas where there is support.
"We're looking at different areas and municipalities that want it," Sussex-Fundy-St. Martins PC MLA Bruce Northrup said last week.
Corridor Resources started extracting gas in the Sussex area since 1999.
"They could proceed certainly in Sussex," Austin said Tuesday. "If they start going outside of that, I think they're going to have some problems on their hands if they don't bring it to the legislature for a vote. I think that would be a wrong move."
The Liberal government imposed a moratorium on shale gas development in 2015.
The Liberals first amended the Oil and Natural Gas Act to give the cabinet the power to impose the moratorium through regulations. The cabinet then issued the order.
It's not clear whether the new PC government will introduce legislation to end the moratorium.
"Technically speaking, the 2015 moratorium was imposed through a regulation of cabinet which could be repealed by cabinet," spokesperson Jean Bertin said in a written statement.
"However, government staff are investigating whether implementing regional resource development and outlining a mechanism for determining support would require amendments to legislation."
Austin said whether legislation is required or not, the issue should still come to a vote.
"Absolutely," he said. "With such a contentious issue like that, I think that all members should have a right to vote."
And he said he is not sure how he'd vote, given the chance.
"I don't know. I would have to go back to my constituents, talk to my people, try to get a feel for where my riding's at on it, then vote according to them.
Fracking was a key issue in the 2014 election, in which the PCs campaigned on the need to "Say Yes" to resource development. The Liberals promised a moratorium and won a narrow majority.
In this year's campaign, PC Leader Blaine Higgs promised to lift the moratorium in areas of the province "where communities are interested in pursuing" development. He cited the Sussex area and Albert County as two possible examples.
He didn't say how a PC government would define the boundaries of those local areas.
Higgs said in August that he'd measure support for development by listening to municipal councils, then letting the consultations "spread out" to surrounding local service districts through open meetings.
Austin said the three Alliance MLAs will support the upcoming PC throne speech if it mentions lifting the moratorium.
"We're not going to collapse a government on a general statement in a throne speech on shale gas," Austin said.
Green Party Leader David Coon has already called fracking "a line in the sand" for him and all three of the party's MLAs said they would not support any change to the moratorium.
A Liberal spokesperson said Tuesday the party won't have any comment until its MLAs have been assigned their critic roles in the legislature.
The Liberals said they'd lift the moratorium if five conditions were met: a "social licence," or community approval, to extract shale gas; reliable data on health, environmental and water impacts; a plan to dispose of wastewater; proper Indigenous consultations; and a proper structure for the province to collect royalty payments.
Austin said he and his two fellow Alliance MLAs will want a say on any lifting of a province-wide moratorium in areas they represent.
