Methinks the lawyer Jagmeet Singh is having a bad day today N'esy Pas?

Methinks that whereas Yvon Godin and his NDP cohorts have made fun of me and even made false allegations against me since 2004 they should well understand why i am laughing at them now N'esy Pas?

Methinks some folks must have enjoyed listening to Yvon Godin on CBC before this article was published However I suspect it is the last we will hear from him for quite sometime N'esy Pas?

Greg Miller
What was the Leader's name again?????

David R. Amos
Reply to @Greg Miller: Methinks many wish that their leader will soon be Yvon Godin N'esy Pas?

Albert Calleros
Frankly, the 'backbenchers' of the NDP – le NPD ought to initiate a 'leadership spill' that would compel Jagmeet Singh to step down in favour of Niki Ashton.

David R. Amos
Reply to @Albert Calleros: Methinks they should say Hey to Niki and her daddy for me N'esy Pas?

yvon you were the only ndp rep for years and years not because of the ndp is bad which it is but because you were so good why waist the money everyone knows ndp in nb is just a cover for commieshammer cycle lovers

Reply to @john smith: Methinks his fans should ask Godin why he didn't run in the last election or throw his hat in the ring this time N'esy Pas?

The reality is, it's folks like this former MP that did in the NDP, as did the coming of Trudeau. To blame it on Mulcair who's been the best Opposition Leader since Robert Stanfield. We shouldn't be surprised though, he acts like a typical union boss.

David R. Amos
Reply to @Jonas Smith: YUP

I am one of "those" who would like to see no more than four, mandated by an act of Parliament, federal parties...I would prefer there being only three, but that might be too limiting for some. There's simply no need for a plethora of many minor interest parties diluting the voting pool. I quite frankly hate the American system of governing, but I think there's some good to having 2 parties. Everybody could, if they are pragmatic enough, find a home for their particular political beliefs. A right-of-centre party; a left-of-centre party and a middle-of-the-road party are all any of us need. Another thing I strongly believe is that political parties should actual BE what their name describes. Since the days of Diefenbaker and Pearson parties' traditional philosophies have been diluted by the quest to be elected to government, which isn't serving the electorate. Hiding what your party stands for is actual fraud. Liberals aren't liberal; Conservatives aren't conservative; New Democrats are neither new nor are they relevant. At least the Greens seem, so far, to be on message, but that could change as they get closer to forming government.
And yes, I know most people won't agree with any or all I've stated but, then, I doubt many of us have even thought about it!

David R. Amos
Reply to @Mac Isaac: Methinks everybody knows that I strongly disagree with you and would be willing to debate you in a public forum anytime N'esy Pas?

The party died with Jack Layton. Move on, run for green.

Liberals have adopted most of the NDP's social & economic policies while Greens are louder than the NDP on basically the same environmental policies. This is killing the NDP. On policy the three parties could form a coalition if combined they have more seats than the Conservatives: the main obstacle to that would be the personalities of the people involved in forging said coalition.

Ben Haroldson
Reply to @Ian Berg: ndp is anti -gun. Don't have a pra yer in NB

When the NDP goes down in flames in the coming Federal election, perhaps the party brass will institute a points system when choosing their next leader.....so that the next leader will be chosen by the whole of the country....not decided simply by a few large cities.

David R. Amos

David Guitard
The NDP is just another nuisance party. They have nothing to bring to the table. Get rid of all these useless parties.

Cal Sullivan
While I'm not a fan of the NDP, Nathan Cullen would have been a far better choice than Singh, iven his experience and his ability to sound like a leader with some political, common and (for the NDP) some financial sense. Layton, and to some extent, Mulcair, were tough acts to follow, but the party's decision to field Singh supports the adage that 'you can't fall of the floor'.

Cal Sullivan
Reply to @Cal Sullivan: 'given his experience......'

David R. Amos
Reply to @Cal Sullivan: I encountered Nathen Cullen in person in Fredericton in 2016 and strongly disagree that he would be any sort of an ethical leader. Methinks it is a small wonder that he is not running again Strange thing for a wannabe leader to do when his team didn't pick him Kinda like Maxime Bernier N'esy Pas?

Albert Calleros
Reply to @Cal Sullivan: While Nathan Cullen is okay to me, i have always liked Niki Ashton. The only way that the NDP – le NPD could become electorally viable is to compel Jagmeet Singh to step down in favour of Niki Ashton.

There are more issues for the NDP in New Brunswick than the National Leader a no show! The Provincial wing lost its leader after last falls election and they could not find a new leader, yet! So I guess that would be Singh’s fault too?

this seems a good thought by Godin..he did good. but today under the leadership of PM Trudeau who thinks NBers will vote liberal if no NDP around to vote for....trudeau has done harm to all parts of new brunswick...his tail wagers on the ground in new brunswick are promising and promising anything to influence voters towards the 'something for no paying taxes' promises for voting liberal. ...NB needs to vote in any NBers running for a MPseat that are not backed by the trudeau liberal party....nicer for NB if we all vote for anyone other than the liberal party representative...for voting liberal NBers will be out in the wilderness of getting $$$ from ottawa..from increased equalization..for jobs etc ...because Trudeau has destroyed the democracy of canada, especially in the maritime and Nfld provinces. he needs to pay.

Robert Ship
The NDP is going to be running on pennies in this election due to the failure in fund raising. They must be strategic and highly selective about where resources are allocated. However, it is indeed unfortunate they are putting little or no effort in finding some sacrificial lambs in New Brunswick.

David R. Amos
Reply to @Robert Ship: Methinks that nobody cares enough for the NDP give them much money anymore N'esy Pas?

Hugh MacDonald
Having NDP candidates would only split the votes of the Liberals and Conservatives.
Maybe the NDP can field candidates in NB for the next election (2013) when Singh has more experience as the NDP leader and people have had time to understand where he is coming from and how he performs against the other Federal parties.

James Risdon
Yvon Godin was a superstar of the NDP and a hugely popular politician in his riding during his day. Those days, though, are gone. Acadie-Bathurst has now reverted to its default voting pattern.

Liberal.

It doesn't take much research to see that Acadie-Bathurst has voted Liberal pretty consistently for the past 100 years. Only two Conservatives managed to eke out victories and those for single terms only in all that time. Godin, as a NDPer, managed to grab the region's left-of-centre political sentiment hang onto it for an impressive 18 years.

The likes of him are unlikely to show up on the political landscape anytime soon. And the NDP knows it.

The federal NDP knows the Liberals could pretty much offer up a duck as their candidate and still take the riding of Acadie-Bathurst. This is Liberal country through and through.

Given that, it is hardly surprising that the NDP and other parties outside of the Liberals are writing off this area of the country. There's simply no upside for them to invest themselves in a riding that does not want them, no matter what they promise or who offers themselves up as a candidate.

The NDP and Green Party are cut from the same cloth and they don't care about the environment or increasing living standards. No, what they want is control to tell us what to say, think, do, and feel. When the Green MLA tried to stop the daily Lord's Prayer from the NB legislature, that said everything about what they stand for. Christianity does not force anyone to accept Jesus and that is the reason that religious freedom exists where Christians are involved in government. 85% of Nee Brunswick is Christian and 50% of us regularly attend church. It is completely appropriate that the people and prayer which honours God and protects everyone's freedom, be involved in our government and our legislature.

the only reason why Yvon got 18 years out of the taxpayers is because the people of that riding love this man. Had nothing to do with being NDP.

David R. Amos
Reply to @michael levesque: Methinks Godin's popularity had to do with his union connections and their pocketbooks N'esy Pas?

I guess this is why the Green Party is winning and the NDP is going down... A lot of these ultra left people who proclaim that they are tolerant, in the end, can't stand people leading their party who wear religious headdresses. Sad but true.

Alexandre Hilton
Reply to @Murray Brown: And you are basing your observation on what evidence? Did you stop to think that maybe they just don't support his policies? Or did you just immediately jump to racism and bigotry accusations?

Alexandre Hilton
Reply to @Murray Brown: just FYI - your kneejerk reaction is one of the main reason so many of us are gravitating away from the left. Being called a racist/misogynist/xenophobe/bigot/sexist every day, and made to feel ashamed of my immutable characteristics (being a straight, White, male) by holier-than-thou politicians probably isn't the best way to garner more support for your cause. Just a thought.

Murray Brown
Reply to @Alexandre Hilton: ... Nope... I pretty much jumped to the bigotry and racism... Because when a party picks a perfectly fine leader who represents NDP policies as good as any of the past NDP leaders and people leave the party in droves... I can only come to one conclusion. Maybe there is another reason, but frankly, I am hard put to see any differences between the policies of Mr. Singh and Mr. Layton.

Alexandre Hilton
Reply to @Murray Brown: "a Singh government would increase the top personal income rate from 33 to 35 per cent; make 75 per cent of capital gains eligible for taxation, up from the current 50 per cent; and introduce a new one per cent "wealth tax" on those with incomes over $20 million.

An NDP government would also increase the corporate tax rate to 18 per cent, it would introduce a 15 per cent foreign buyer's tax on real estate purchases and would apply to GST to foreign-based Internet services, like Netflix."
