Even on a remote chance if such a lawsuit was successful, then technically the taxpayers of the province will foot the bill, He won't pay a cent.

I'm not sure how this ends. However I do believe that a good chunk of people around here are not going to return to "normal" no matter what level the government, Qanon, Donald Trumpites, or any of these sorry excuses for truckers says we're going to be at. So open everything up if you want, that in no way means we're all going to the rodeo.

One thing we can all agree on is the death rate is quite disturbing

Neil Murphy
Reply to @Marc LeBlanc: More disturbing is knowing we all die

SarahRose Werner
Reply to @Marc LeBlanc: I'm not sure that disturbing is the word I would use. I'd say more like regrettable. I'd be "disturbed" if we didn't know why people were dying, but we do. Certainly the number of deaths is low even compared to the number of known cases - which is quite likely less than the number of actual cases. The other thing to keep in mind re: deaths is that they tend to lag hospitalizations, which in turn lag cases. We could be seeing the worst of the deaths right now

David Amos
Reply to @Neil Murphy: Even more disturbing is how much taxes we pay supporting this nonsense until we do give up the ghost

"Hospital occupancy is listed at 89 per cent, while the ICU occupancy is at 68 per cent. "
We are coming out of this folks. Lets move to Level 1 and start talking about building a healthcare system. The one we had is the one we still have, operating in crisis not a new story.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Sadly we are not ready for level 1. At a minimum we need to significantly increase the % of the population with the booster shots. That is the primary driver in the European countries that are moving to relax the restrictions. Level 2 is fine for now.

SarahRose Werner
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Agreed. To break down the figures a bit, 3% of our hospitals beds are occupied by patients who are there for COVID. 4% are occupied by patients with COVID who are there for other reasons, and 82% are occupied by patients who don't have COVID. 11% of our ICU beds are occupied by people who are there for COVID. 1% - one bed - is occupied by a patient who's there for other reasons and has COVID, and 56% are occupied by patients who don't have COVID. COVID is the straw on the camel's back.

Nathan Patriquen
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Agreed. Level 1 and fix the broken system.

SarahRose Werner
Reply to @Nathan Patriquen: Might I suggest Level 1 to start with, but not to stop with? Moving to Level 1 should be the start of a process that leads to the end of the "winter plan," the end of the state of emergency instated in September 2021 and the repeal of the vaccine and mask mandates added to the Public Health regulations in September 2021. As far as I'm concerned, it's not over until both mandates are gone.

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @SarahRose Werner: Level 2 till early spring, level 1 for 4 weeks then rescind the emergency order.

Samuel Clemens
Reply to @Dave Corbin: Those occupancy rates are actually lower than pre-pandemic. Typically, for budgetary and fiscal reasons, you want your occupancy rate over 90%. If not, you're paying for nurses to sit around...

It appears as though the Higgs Government is allowing COVID to relieve it of it's responsibilities to it's seniors. Six deaths a day and sitting at level two can only mean one thing and that will not work well for those over 70.

Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: It's turning into an agist /ableist-fuelled race to the Level 1 Finish Line ... while inch by inch, day by day further sanitizing the extreme toll this is taking on our most vulnerable. Whatever happened to the "We're in it together" motto/mantra so oft-repeated over the first few waves?

JOhn D Bond
Reply to @Norman Albert Snr: Excuse me if I suggest you are exaggerating with the intent and the numbers both miss the boat.
The numbers don't add up using your number and certainly the government is not abandoning anyone by moving to level 2. The are trying to balance for all.
